Once a tribute tea reserved exclusively for the enjoyment of the Imperial court, Tie Guan Yin (also known as Iron Goddess) is one of China's 10 most famous teas. Today, the term "monkey-picked" simply means the highest quality available. The tea brews an amber infusion with a fresh orchid fragrance and a smooth and full-bodied caramel flavor. Legend has it that monkeys were trained by monks to collect the leaves from the branches of the wild tea trees growing on steep mountainsides. Our monkey-picked tea was picked and processed by masterful human hands using techniques at least two centuries old.
Origin: China, Fujian Province.
Harvest: Spring 2009
Brewing Recommendation: Use 1 teaspoon per 6 oz cup. Heat water until boiling. Let steep 3 - 5 minutes. Good for multiple infusions.
